Why: 39,000 blooming tulips are taking over Pier 39, and you’re invited on a free guided tour led by Pier 39’s landscaping team. Pregame Chinese New Year

When: Saturday, February 10th, 10 A.M. – 8 P.M. and Sunday, February 11th, 9 A.M. – 6 P.M.

Where: Chinatown, San Francisco

Why: Every year, families gather to enjoy the festive atmosphere at the Chinese New Year Flower Fair. Traditional holiday plants, flowers and fruits are available for purchase, while traditional Chinese Opera and lion dancing, music, art and cultural displays are available for enjoyment. // The fair stretches along Grant Avenue from Clay to Broadway; Washington, Jackson & Pacific between Stockton & Kearny.

Puppy love, for real

When: February 10th and 11th, 11 A.M. – 4 P.M.

Where: Muttville HQ, San Francisco

Why: Give a senior dog a shot at love, and treat yourself to full-time happiness. This weekend, senior dog rescue Muttville is waiving adoption fees for all of their dogs. The event is also free to attend, with donations encouraged. // 255 Alabama Street, Mission

Party like it’s 1959

When: Saturday, February 10th, 7 P.M. – 10 P.M.

Where: Presidio Social Club

Why: This isn’t just any Valentine’s Day party – it’s a blast from the past, the 1950s specifically. Bring your poodle skirt, scarf, saddle shoes and bobby socks. Live music from the San Francisco Jitterbugs, dancing (the mashed potato and the twist are lock-ins) and retro cocktails are all part of the deal. Op back to the 1950s for Valentine’s Day in the Presidio.
